Jupiter, FL - Nineteen year-old Austin Harrouff believed he had super powers right before he argued and then stormed off from a family dinner at a local Duffy’s to ultimately murder a local Martin County couple. Now officials are saying that a synthetic drug called N-Bomb may have played a role.

N-Bomb May Be To Blame

Right before the killing, Harrouff’s mom, Mina Harrouff, contacted local police to help find her son, but felt he was in no immediate danger to himself or others, even with his unusual behavior. The college sophomore had recently confessed to his mother that he not only had super powers, but that he was here to protect people and was immortal. Friends had also noticed that Austin had been acting strange.

So what exactly happened that night?

Austin Harrouff had gotten into a fight with his parents, left the restaurant and later stabbed both John Stephens III and Michelle Mishcon to death at their home. A neighbor, Jeff Fisher, tried to save them but was also stabbed at least 5 times before he got away to call 911. When dispatch arrived, the 6 foot tall 200-pound teen was leaning over Stephens, gnawing the flesh off of his face.

One of the main questions many people have on their minds right now is, what would make an average college student, football player, and fraternity member do such a horrible thing? Medical professionals believed that a synthetic drug known as N-Bomb, a deadly designer bath salt which first made it’s appearance in 2010, may have been partly to blame.

Professor and director Deborah Mash of the Excited Delirium Education, Research and Information Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, explained her theory. Mash believes that Harrouff had suffered from an acute psychotic episode that was driven by synthetic drug, N-Bomb.

What is N-Bomb?

N-Bomb is a bath salt that comes from the chemical acronym known as 2C-I-NBOMe. Unlike other bath salts, it stimulates both neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, Mash explained. This is crucial information because neurotransmitters communicate information between the body and the brain.

“High concentrations of serotonin have been shown in tests with lab rats to induce this type of gnawing,” she said.

Mash also explains that the young college student may have been struggling with a bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. The combination of a synthetic drug and an underlying mental health disorder could have proven to be the cause of the deadly attack. Further testing is also being conducted to check for signs of flakka, another deadly synthetic drug.

What Happens Now?

Right now additional labs are being processed by the FBI, and hopefully will be back soon with a better idea of what could have affected Harrouff ‘s brain and actions so badly, but there also is the concern that his blood work may not give officials all the answers they are looking for. Some synthetic drugs may not be able to be seen in the blood, making it difficult for medical professional to make the connection between mental health issues, synthetic drugs, and deadly face biting attacks.

Don’t Do Drugs!

We hope that anyone out there reading this blog takes some serious caution in avoiding bath salts, spice, K-2, N-Bomb, flakka, or any other illegal or synthetic drug out there. The consequences are far greater than any perceived pleasure one could achieve.
