The Watershed's commitment to each patient's confidentiality is ensured by our legal responsibility as mandated by state and federal law. Each staff member is dedicated to upholding these standards in all communications and records. Along with your physical comfort, we are also dedicated to your mental and emotional comfort. The staff at The Watershed understands that part of tending to that mental comfort is maintaining the trust found in confidentiality.
The Watershed believes in respectful treatment of patients, family members and staff while providing a safe and supportive environment. The Watershed provides a system to ensure that our patients' and their family members' rights are preserved and protected. These rights are outlined in the patient handbook given to you upon admission.
The Privacy Rule
The HIPAA Privacy Rule is a nationally recognized set of standards, created to protect individuals' medical and personal health records. The Rule applies to health plans, health care cleaning houses and healthcare providers that employ electronic healthcare transactions. Covered organizations are required to implement appropriate precautions to safeguard the privacy of personal health records and set limits and conditions for the use and disclosure of this information without proper patient consent. The Rule bestows patients the rights to their personal health information, including the right to review, request corrections and receive a copy of their personal health information.
