What’s Wrong With Me Anxiety, depression, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, fear, anger, and feeling like you’re out of control are just some of the feelings that might cause you to wonder, “What’s wrong with me?”

When You Can’t Stop Asking “What’s Wrong With Me?

What if we changed that from a negative to a more positive question? If you find yourself asking, “What’s wrong with me?”, why not consider asking, “How can I heal my mind and body?” instead.

There are these things called feelings that affect us mentally, emotionally, and physically. Depending on what kind of feelings we have also may depend on our brain chemistry, physical well-being, and any trauma we may have experienced. This doesn’t mean there is anything that is wrong with us, it simply means that our mind and body have been affected in a way that may cause us discomfort, sickness, and unhappiness, but that doesn’t have to last forever.

Here’s the cool thing about these feelings – you can recover. Yup, you heard me! You can recover from anxiety, depression, drug abuse, fear, anger, etc. You just have to be willing to put in some serious work to do it.

How does it work? I am sure you are going to tell me that you have read all the self-help books at the store, seen various therapists, and even tried prayer/mediation, along with loads of medications. But none of it has worked, right? Have your tried a combining some of those things with a different perception, into your treatment?

You might be surprised to learn that there is no quick combination that works for everyone every time; sometimes it takes trying different things to come up with a solution that works best for you. Let’s take a look at some key components that people in recovery from these issues have used in order to heal and live happy and productive lives.

Recovering From Yourself


Treatment may include attending an inpatient rehabilitation program, outpatient program, and/or seeing a therapist 1-2 (maybe even more) times a week. It really depends on how long you have ignored yourself mentally and physically, so don’t be afraid to take some seriously aggressive steps towards your recovery. Nothing changes if nothing changes.


There is nothing wrong with taking a medication if you need to do so, provided you are working with a doctor who has your best interest in mind and is not just pumping you full of drugs that could be harmful or addictive. If you suffer from bi-polar or depression, you may need a little assistance to help you recover fully. This you will want to explore more with your loved ones, therapist, and a doctor to ensure you get the best treatment possible. Having support will also help you determine if the meds are working or not.

Diet and Exercise

It may seem trivial, but having a healthy and balanced diet and lifestyle will greatly improve your chances of recovering both mentally and physically. Are you getting enough water? The recommended amount of water each day is half your body weight in oz. and sometimes more if you exercise frequently. Are you eating enough, and are you eating enough of the good stuff? Make sure you are getting enough sleep, too. Some people can do fine on 6 hours, while others need 8 hours. Just make sure you do what is best for you. Plus, don’t forget to be active. All these things combined will help keep you balanced and healthy.


Support of those who understand what you are going through is an excellent way to help you feel less alone as you continue on your journey of recovery. There are lots of support groups out there so don’t forget to do your research and reach out. No one can support and help you if they don’t know you, so open up.


Meditation and prayer can be done in so many different ways. Don’t limit yourself to what you believe is the “only way” to do it. You can even ask your supports how they do their prayer/meditation for some inspiration. It’s definitely worth looking in to.


Balance is crucial, and is one of the quickest ways to help get you back on track. Having balance in your life helps create less stressful situations, better focus, and a clearer idea of what your needs are and how you can accomplish them.

These are just some of the many tips to help you get back on track and living a happy, free, and productive lifestyle. We all go through the struggles of life, so the next time you ask yourself, “What’s wrong with me?” – just remember you are not alone and many of us have not only felt the way you feel currently, but have recovered from that feeling.
