Sharethis Watershed

With so many different illegal drugs and prescription pills on the market, it’s difficult sometimes to keep up with the names and drug slangs. Most people are familiar with the words meth, ecstasy, oxycodone, cocaine, heroin, as well as many other drugs; but what is MDMA? MDMA stands for Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, the purest form of the drug Ecstasy. You may know it as Molly.

What Is MDMA & How Does It Affect Users

MDMA is an illegal substance that is both a stimulant as well as a psychedelic. The user will have excess energy, distorted perception of time, and enhanced pleasures from physical touch. Usually MDMA is taken orally, and its effects can last anywhere from 3-6 hours. The average pill taken is about 1-2 per user and can contain between 60-120 milligrams of MDMA per pill. The longer the substance abuser takes the drug, the higher the risk of tolerance that user will experience. 1-2 pills may not work as strong or long as continued use takes place.

The Facts About MDMA

What is MDMA abuse? MDMA is never taken for medicinal use – any use is abuse of this drug. MDMA taken in average to high doses can be very toxic to all the organs in the body, including the brain. MDMA raises body temperature and can unpredictably lead to severe medical issues, or even death. Long-lasting damage to brain functions and the body are a common result.

Who Is Abusing MDMA?

MDMA was first popular among teens and young adults in the nightclub scene or raves. However, as time has passed the typical MDMA user has begun to change. Data obtained from the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s (NIDA) Community Epidemiology Work Group (CEWG), continues to report that abuse of MDMA has begun to spread among people outside the demographic of teens and club scenes.
