Shia LaBeouf was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Austin, Texas over the weekend.

Shia LaBeouf Arrested Again

On Friday October 9, Shia LaBeouf was arrested by the Austin Police Department following an incident near the Austin City Limits music festival. LaBeouf was later released on his own recognizance. Though additional details were not immediately available, the arrest is one among a string of similar episodes for the young actor.

A destructive timeline

The 29-year-old Transformers actor has struggled hard, with a very public series of transgressions that span from mischievous to truly bizarre. Many of the incidents were fueled in some way by alcohol.

His troubles began in 2005, when he found himself in hot water following an alleged altercation with a neighbor. In 2007, he was arrested for criminal trespassing after refusing to leave a Chicago Walgreens. In 2008, he was in a car accident and arrested at the scene for misdemeanor drunk driving. In 2011, he was detained (though never arrested) following a bar fight in Los Angeles.

In late 2013, he released a short film at the Cannes Film Festival, but was accused of plagiarizing the content. Shortly thereafter, LaBeouf launched an odd campaign of sorts on Twitter, repeatedly tweeting the phrase I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE. He decided to reinforce the concept by writing it on a paper bag and wearing it over his head to a movie premier. That October his bad behavior made the news again, this time with two separate incidents in London, one a physical fight, and the other a shouting match in which he allegedly threatened to kill a man.

LaBeouf was arrested yet again in 2014, following an incident where he harassed stage actors during a Broadway performance of Cabaret in New York. He was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass and reportedly spat and swore at the arresting officers. Later that year he was seen walking with a copy of Alcoholics Anonymous, and his rep confirmed that he was seeking treatment for alcohol, though he was not being admitted for rehabilitation anywhere.

Signs of substance abuse

If a decade of legal troubles doesn’t prove a clear pattern of abuse, what else will it take to get him the help he needs? It seems that rehabilitation could do Mr. LaBouf some good.

Sometimes the signs of substance abuse are obvious to everyone but the addict. But nobody is beyond help. If you see similar patterns of destruction in your life, or if you’re looking for help to find care for a loved one, call The Watershed.
