Prescription Thugs: A Chris Bell Documentary

Is there really a war on drugs? A new documentary by Chris Bell called “Prescription Thugs” explores that question.

Prescription Thugs

Prescription Thugs is a continuation to Bell’s previous documentary “BIGGER FASTER STRONGER,” which documents performance enhancing drug abuse in sports.

This new film goes even deeper and explores our nation’s prescription drug epidemic. After Bell watched his friends and loved ones become addicted to prescription drugs, he made a decision to set out and investigate even further into the prescription pill industry – including pharmaceutical companies and the doctors that help aid in the dispensing of their meds. The raw truth that Bell touches on, is this very simple question: “How are they any different to a back-alley drug-pusher?”

As Bell digs up the dirt on Big Pharma, he also opens up about his own battle with prescription drug abuse, making this documentary a powerful and compelling piece of reality that many Americans can unfortunately identify with and are facing today.

Addiction is a disease of the mind and body and without help many will not recover. It’s upsetting that we even have to have documentaries like “Prescription Thugs,” but it’s necessary if we are going to change how we are treating addiction and those who have been afflicted. According to the 2010 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), nearly 2.4 million Americans have used prescription pills for non-medical use for the first time within that past year. That averages out to about 6,600 first time users per day. That’s a lot of people and a lot of pills being abused. The more awareness that is spread about the prescription drug addiction our country is facing, the more prevention and treatment options can be put into action. We can’t do this alone, but as a nation, we can accomplish anything.
