Trust The Process

One of the hardest things for me to do is to trust the process. Sometimes I get confused, anxious, or scared about how my life is unfolding that I often times feel the need to control it. Unfortunately, when I try to control the process, I end up making a bigger mess. This mess ultimately leads to more confusion, anxiety, and fear. So, what do I do, especially if I am not sure when I should insert action or not into the process? That part is simple; all we need is a little prayer, meetings, and support.

Prayer

This is where I ask my Higher Power for clarity and direction. I can often overthink and obsess over certain thoughts, so I ask my Higher Power to remove the obsessive thinking and to bring me clarity, peace of mind, and true direction. I can have a tendency of getting in my own way, even if I am not aware of it, which is why prayer is so important.

Meetings

Many times I can find the answers I am seeking in support meetings. If not answers, I find comfort and peace. This is where I can take the time to really connect with myself, my higher power, and the process of life. It’s a safe place to just be me and absorb positive thoughts which ultimately lead to positive action. This is where I feel most at home.

Support

Trusting the process of life can almost feel daunting. Whether you are new in recovery or have gathered a few years. There will also be something that will challenge your thinking and your actions as you continue on in your journey of sobriety, this is why it’s equally as important to share your feelings and thoughts with supports you value and trust. They can sometimes help you see things or put things into perspective.

Every person has their own things they face in life. Some answers are really simple, while others may be more complicated and confusing, but as long as we keep moving forward and keep trusting the process, we will be OK. Each experience has the opportunity to help us grow, so allow yourself the chance to trust the process and grow in your recovery.

Just for today, Higher Power please free me of negative thinking and help me trust the process even if I don’t know the answers.
