Chill Out

Relax.

Calm down.

Easy does it.

Sometimes you just need a moment to stop thinking/reacting and chill out. As alcoholics and addicts, we tend to jump to conclusions, overreact, and be extra sensitive, so it’s even more important for us to relax and chill out when things don’t go our way. Here are some quick and simple ways to help you chill out and get back on track to happiness.

Meditation either through reading, art, or music is an excellent way to sooth the soul and mind.

Drink calming tea (not Kava, but maybe a lavender chamomile blend)

Healthy foods and water are proven to improve overall health and mood.

Talking to a friend who understands is sometimes the best way to express your feelings of anger or hurt.

Try going to a meeting and either listening to others or being of service by helping others.

Get adequate rest or exercise depending on your body’s needs. You could be just a nap or exercise away from a good mood.

These all seem like simple tasks that may not do much at first, but after time of practicing and living a balanced life it will be much easier for you to chill out under stressful and aggravating situations.  Don’t take yourself or life so seriously and try pulling back and just enjoying the ride. Some of us get ourselves so wound up that we forget to relax and enjoy the journey we are on.  There is no reason to try to control or manipulate our lives or the people in it for us to be happy. We can be happy by accepting certain things as being exactly the way they are and move on. Recovery is a process, but so is just living life and when we are stressing over every little detail we lose sight of all the beauty we have in the present moment.

Let today be the day that you stop and just chill out. Let whatever is happening in your life just naturally happen and try your best just for today. You only have this moment right here and right now so why not enjoy it fully by surrendering your anger, fears, and anxiety and being grateful for all that you do have in this world in the present moment. Take a moment now to stop thinking/reacting, chill out, and be happy – just for today.
