Motivational Meditation Monday: Keep Calm & Be Positive

We have all done it, even those who are not in recovery from drugs or alcohol. We have all beaten ourselves up, or repeated nasty words about who we are as people. We have taken what negative things others may have said and turned them into cold hard facts and beliefs. We made a decision that we were bad people and underserving of love, respect, or worth. We made our negative thoughts our reality, and we lived in fear as a result. We just did not know how to be positive.
What most of us didn’t know before we got into recovery, is that we had the power to change those thoughts, beliefs, and ideas. We could literally change our thinking by cleaning house, leaning on a power greater than ourselves for energy, and replanting new concepts and beliefs. Through affirming positive ideas and meditating, we found that we weren’t just deserving of good things, we were actually worth it. We began to see that drugs and alcohol no longer controlled us, and neither did our stinking thinking. We saw how our experiences from the past, both good and bad, not only shaped us into the amazing miracles we were today, but that we could help others achieve the same happiness. We were becoming comfortable in our own skin.
How To Be Positive
Positive affirmations are repeated thoughts and phrases that many people use to help them build self-esteem and self-worth. The idea is simple; if constant negative thoughts take us to bad places, then why can’t positive ones take us to great places? We can choose to be happy, it may take patience with ourselves, but we can do it. We can start treating ourselves to good ideas and leave the cruel thoughts to those who can handle it better. We are fully capable of creating our own happiness; we just have to keep repeating to ourselves positive affirmations while allowing ourselves to be human. We will start to see our new found positive thoughts have transcended into our daily life and actions. We now believe what we think and say. We no longer fear people, places, and things because we see ourselves in a positive way today.
