5 Things You Need To Stop Doing Now

Overthinking

Compulsive thinking can cause anxiety, stress, fatigue, and in some cases, make you physically ill. Kick to the curb right now anything that is blocking you from enjoying your day and ultimately your life. If you can’t fix it or change it, let it go.  This can sometimes be easier said than done, but with some action, it can be accomplished. Share with a support your thoughts, pray and meditate about the right action to take, and don’t forget to take care of yourself when it comes to fueling your body, resting, and exercise. Eventually our obsessive thoughts will turn into peace of mind when we work towards growing closer to our Higher Power and our program of recovery.

People Pleasing

You can’t please everyone and it’s not healthy to either. Being authentic is an amazing character trait to have that actually draws good people closer to you, but when we are busy constantly pleasing others, people can’t really get to know us. People pleasers also tend to neglect their own needs and have a tendency of being resentful at those who take advantage of them or those who do not react the way they want them to. Today, let go of the idea that you have to please others to be loved, because you are amazing just the way you are.

Fear of Change

Change can be exciting, amazing, and totally scary all at the same time, but instead of looking at change as an impending doom, try observing it as an opportunity to enhance your life. Life and recovery can be an adventure if we allow it to be one. What amazing things are you blocking yourself from experiencing because you are being resistant to change? Let that fear of change fall to the side and embrace new opportunities as they come.

Self-Sabotaging

Is life going a little too well? Waiting for the other foot to drop? Don’t worry, self-sabotaging is an excellent way to confirm that foot will drop. Many of us in recovery had found ourselves dealing lots of chaos in active addiction, so when we get into recovery and things in life seem to go calmly and smoothly, we can become fearful that something bad is right around the corner. In some cases, we create that bad thing because we are too scared to enjoy the process and figure if we shake it up, we are somehow in more control. Stop stunting your growth towards happiness by causing chaos and sabotaging your life. You will be amazed at how beautiful your life can really be.

Resentments

Resentments can be tricky and drain the life out of us. They prevent us from having healthy relationships, being happy, and living our life to the fullest. They can not only fill us with anger, but also fear. Resentments come with a whole load of other issues and can literally rob us of having an amazing life. When left unchecked and continued, for us in recovery, resentments can have the power to kill. Let go of whatever resentment you currently have and allow yourself to be happy, joyous, and free.

Recovery is amazing and if you find that anyone of these things is blocking you from enjoying and living your life to the fullest, then it is time to let them go and embrace life.

Just for today, I will not allow myself or circumstances prevent me from being happy.
