Mike Tyson Confessions: I’m on the verge of dying
Mike Tyson, former heavyweight champion, has been no stranger to breaking the law, drinking, drugging, and insane behaviors; but what he shared at a recent press conference seemed out of character for Mike. Tyson not only admitted he had a problem with alcohol and drugs, but also admitted that he only had 6 days sober and is attending AA.
Mike Tyson Sober
In this video clip, Mike Tyson shares about his alcoholism at a press conference in New York. He started out by saying “I’m negative, I’m dark, and I want to do bad stuff.” He went on to talk about how he is attending AA and how he wants forgiveness. While watching the clip it appears that Tyson spills out more than he had intended to when he shared that he had only 6 days away from a drink and drug. He expressed that he is on the verge of dying because of his alcoholism and needed to change. “I haven’t drank or took drugs in six days, and for me that’s a miracle. I’ve been lying to everybody else that think I was sober, but I’m not. This is my sixth day. I’m never gonna use again.” Mike Tyson’s confession was shocking because up until this point, everyone thought he was in recovery.
History Of Mike Tyson
Tyson’s emotional testimonial came after discussing his attempts to make amends to former trainer Teddy Atlas, the announcer for ESPN at the fight that night. Tyson and Atlas had a pretty public falling out in the ’80s that reportedly included Atlas pulling a gun on Tyson, who was only 15 then, after Tyson allegedly attacked a young girl who was related to Atlas.
“Maybe it was overwhelming to Teddy and he didn’t get it yet, but he has to know that this is sincere. I don’t want to fight you no more. I was wrong, I’m sorry. I was wrong, and I just wanted to make my amends,” Tyson said. “If not, at least I could die and go to my grave and say I made my amends with everybody that I had hurt.”
Tyson was also arrested in 1991 for the rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington, Miss Black Rhode Island. Tyson was found guilty in 1992 and sentenced to six years in prison; he was released in three.
Tyson later checked himself into rehab in 2007 for various addictions as he waited on his trial for drug charges. Police discovered Tyson trying to wipe white powder off his consol when he was pulled over for reckless driving. Tyson then finally admitted he uses cocaine and uses it any chance he gets.
Mike Tyson 2013
For the first time it really appears that Tyson is finally worn out from his alcoholism and drug addiction, and really wants a change. His confession was both unexpected and appeared genuine. Even the toughest of guys have to lay their heads on the pillow at night and be OK with their actions, and it appears that Tyson is tired of his actions. Hopefully he will really work a program of recovery and try to make right all the wrongs he did so he can remain clean and sober long-term. Addiction can be baffling, but even Mike can recover if he has the willingness to do so.
