Stop Complaining!

When most of us came into recovery, we seemed to complain about everything. It was like we were unable to be happy and grateful for anything we had because we were just so miserable with ourselves. Even if we were happy, our emotions were so unbalanced that as soon as something went slightly wrong, we would blow it up into a mountain of a problem. We were not equipped to handle life on life’s terms and the only thing we could do about it was complain.

After sometime and the patience and tolerance of the group, we started to see that our complaining was annoying and got us nowhere. As we got stronger in our foundation of recovery we began to see how much we could actually get through and as a result, felt stronger as people. It was a like a power greater than ourselves filled us with the power and strength to get through life without breaking down and without a drink or drug.

The longer we stay in recovery the stronger we become in our principles and the less likely we are to complain about the small things (sometimes even the big things). Some of us might lose sight of that and find ourselves attending our 0wn pity party, but if we continue to grow along spiritual lines, we are quick to remove ourselves and quit complaining. If we continue to repeat the same actions and expect different results, then we need to stop complaining all together because this was our decision not to change. See how that works? Our present happiness is in our hands if we choose to make a change and action towards that happiness.

Today is the day that we stop complaining about our lives, the situations in our lives, and anything else that we feel is our duty to complain about. We can start right now by taking action towards our own happiness and taking responsibility for ourselves so that we can get off the pity-pot and really start to live life to the fullest – happy, joyous, and free. This might not be the life you ordered, but it certainly can be a beautiful one if you are willing to take certain steps to get there. If you are unhappy with your life, then create a new one and stop complaining.
