Color Your Life

Many of us felt that our lives had lost its color from drinking and using. We were left with a world that was dark, dreary, and corrupt. Each day seemed to have lost its vibrancy and we were left feeling bankrupt, blind, and alone. When we came into recovery our perception about ourselves and the world seemed to slowly change. We started to see the colors of our life again and they were bold.

If you haven’t seen all the colors of your world change since you have been in recovery, be patient, sometimes it takes a while for those bright colors to bleed in. For many of us, those colors didn’t start showing up until we put the work into our program of recovery. Until we started taking action into living a life abstinent from drugs and alcohol, we found ourselves still in the dark. Once we made that bold step forward, we saw how we not only changed, but the world around us had changed as well.

Self-pity was also a sure fire way for you to never see the bright beautiful colors of your life. The more we wallow in our sadness and what we don’t have, the more gray our world becomes.  The more we regret our past, are unhappy with our present, and fearful of our future, the more we will stay in the darkness. It’s time to bust out and live your life in color!

Just for today, let go of fear, anger, and resentment. Allow yourself to paint your life with whatever colors you want. Let go of any negative thoughts or behaviors that are holding you back from true happiness. Once we are willing to let go and let life flow without trying to control or manipulate it, we can then be truly at peace and truly filled with joy.

Today is your day to paint your life in the beautiful colors of joy, serenity, and peace.
