Be Sober

If you are trying to stay sober after detox and treatment and not sure why it’s not sticking, you may want to look at your part rather than those around you. Just like nobody had the power to get you drunk or high, that same power is useless in keeping you clean and sober. If you want to be sober long-term, you have to work for it!

Treatment is not a cure, it’s a tool to help those who suffer from addiction learn about themselves, the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction, and how to get and be sober after treatment. It gives the addict and alcoholic a safe place for them to work through anything that may be blocking them from their own recovery, but in order for it to work; they must be willing to put in the effort.

If you want something in life, you have to work for it. There is no such thing as a free lunch, I am sure many of you have heard that saying before. Basically, it means that you can’t get something for nothing. If you do not put effort into your own recovery, your own means, your own sweat, your own energy; you may not continue to stay sober. Nobody is going to get and be sober for you and it’s time to stop feeling sorry for ourselves. Addiction is a disease, but we do recover if we want it bad enough. How bad to you want to be sober?

What if I told you all you had to do was take suggestions and you could be sober long-term? You may not believe it, but there are millions who are doing it right now. First you must be honest, only you can decide if you are A. alcoholic/addict B. if you want to really recover without reservations. Next, stop blaming others for your drinking/drugging, relapses, and unhappiness; it's nobody elses fault. Take responsibilty for your life and your actions. Go to meetings, get a sponsor, apply your program, and help others. It’s that simple, we make it complicated. If you want to be sober, do the work and help others! Otherwise, stop telling others that treatment and 12-step groups don’t work; tell them you are not working it! If you don’t want to be sober, please do not deter others from getting sober, it may actually kill someone.

If you want to be sober and you are not sure how, give The Watershed a call today 1-800-861-1768.
