Motivational Meditation Monday: Keep Calm and Be Fearless

“Thinking will not overcome fear but action will.” – W. Clement Stone

Be Fearless

We all have fears. Fears of not being good enough, fear of finances, fear of relationships, fear of the unknown and fear of life in general, but those fears do not have to control us. The great thing about recovery is that even when we experience these thoughts we can quickly take corrective action to alleviate those fears.  They can go as quickly as they have come provided we are willing to take a few simple steps.

Over the years I have had multiple irrational fears that have popped up, but I have yet to have those fears stick around long enough to control my life or actions. The only reason being is that I have trust and faith in a power greater than myself and I know that they are in control, and not me. When I let go of those fears and give it up to my Higher Power, I am free. I suddenly realize that the only thing I have to fear is fear itself. It does not matter if my fears are real or made-up, I do not have to let them control me when I put my faith in my Higher Power.

You see, since I am an alcoholic, it’s not uncommon for someone like me to overthink things or obsess over irrational thoughts.  This is why prayer and meditation, connection with a Higher Power, and sober supports are so very important – they help us move away from those fears and towards faith. The really cool part about recovery is that as quickly as those fears have come into play, they can just as quickly leave us. I have literally had moments where after a meditation session or talk with another alcoholic, have been relieved of my fears instantly.  This in return gives others hope that they too can be fearless.

Just for today, be fearless. Let go of expectations, negative thinking, obsessing thoughts, and irrational (or even rational) fears. Allow your Higher Power to take control of the wheel so that you can enjoy the journey happy, joyous, and free!
