Accept Change

Life is ever changing, much like the seasons, and it doesn’t always go as planned. Sometimes we  get what we want, while other times, we are left without a clue as to what had happened to our grand plans. Most of us are just trying to find our own way to happiness and accepting our current or past situation for being exactly the way it is can be difficult. Any kind of transition in life has the ability to be uncomfortable, even positive ones, for us addicts and alcoholics.

Acceptance

Making major life changes can be scary and exciting at the same time. Going through the process of change can also bring up lots of different feelings and for those in recovery can sometimes be confusing. As addicts and alcoholics, most of us were used to making impulsive poor decisions that later would place us in a position to be hurt. Making major life changes for us in recovery can be the difference between staying clean and sober. On the other hand, sometimes life changes just happen and we are powerless over it. This is where acceptance comes in.

Change

I found throughout my recovery that my acceptance level of whatever change was happening in my life dictated my level of happiness. If I was not willing to accept, I usually struggled greatly with stress and feelings of anger. I have found that life is change, and my job is to try and flow with the changes the best that I can. I try hard not to worry too much about the results and just focus on my actions. Am I being honest, open-minded, willing, and doing the right thing? If I can answer those questions with confidence, I can accept change much easier because my side of the street is clean.

You never know what amazing things are ahead if you don’t allow change to happen in your life. Just think about how great the change was from addiction to recovery? Let today be the day that we accept change with open arms and open hearts and let our Higher Power take care of the rest. Change is good.
