If you have been on Facebook in the last 24 hours, chances are you have seen posts celebrating Ben Affleck’s alcohol addiction treatment and recovery.  The Batman star doesn’t just play the hero on the big screen, but he also plays it in real life by showing that addiction is nothing to be ashamed of.

Ben Affleck Alcohol Addiction

According to CNN, Affleck also attended treatment in 2001 for his addiction. This is even more powerful, because he didn’t let his relapse stop him from admitting that he still has a problem and needed help for it. This provides so much hope and encouragement for those who have tried recovery before, but didn’t stay sober.

“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”

If you had the chance to read some of the comments on his post, it might just bring you to tears, in a good way. The outpouring of love on his feed is something that hits the heart strings of every addict, alcoholic, and their loved ones.  Huge kudos to Ben Affleck for talking about his struggles with alcoholism, and his unashamed post on Facebook about his recent visit to an addiction treatment center. Today, Ben, you are our hero.
