Avicii’s Death: Did Alcohol Play a Role?
Popular Swedish DJ and musician Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman this past Friday, April 20th. Two autopsies were performed, but Royal Oman Police confirmed there was “no criminal suspicion” in the 28-year-old Avicii’s death. Best known for songs “Levels” and “Wake Me Up,” Avicii was constantly at the top in the genre of music referred to as EDM, or Electronic Dance Music.
Was Alcohol Involved in Avicii’s Death?
There are currently no official details about alcohol being involved in Avicii’s death, but the award-winning musician, whose birth name is Tim Bergling, had a known history of alcohol abuse. In 2013, Avicii revealed in an interview that he “used to party a lot” until he learned he “couldn’t handle that amount” and “wasn’t feeling good doing that.” In fact, Avicii suffered from a pancreatitis attack at the mere age of 21. His gallbladder and appendix were removed in 2014. As a result, Avicii cancelled several shows to allow himself time to heal. After performing over 800 shows, the fast-paced lifestyle continued to take a toll on him and he took a break from performing in 2016. He released new music in the summer of 2017.
Alcohol Abuse, Anxiety, and Fame
Avicii described his music career as “the best time of [his] life,” but also stated “it came with a price,” which was “a lot of stress, a lot of anxiety.” As tragic as the young, famous musician Avicii’s death is, it can act as a warning about the dangers of alcohol abuse and excessive drinking for many.
