Seller on Amazon Glorifying Drug Use by Selling “Enjoy Cocaine” T Shirts for Kids
UPDATE 4/17/2018: The drug-related children’s clothing has since been removed by the seller on Amazon. A representative from Amazon stated, “All Marketplace sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who don’t will be subject to action including potential removal of their account. The products in question are no longer available.”
The latest of shocking accessories and items to be glorifying drug use has hit the scene on Amazon – and the target audience is children. A seller on Amazon has placed kids’ t shirts for sale with “Enjoy Cocaine” printed on them in the same font and design that is used on Coca-Cola merchandise to act as a pun on the well-known brand. The popular global website showcases the drug-related clothing in photos of with children modeling them! The fact that Amazon has these pro-drug use shirts sold in children’s clothing sizes has caused a controversial uproar.
Why Is Amazon Selling “Enjoy Cocaine” T Shirts for Kids?
While there are t shirts sold on Amazon that glorify drug use in sizes for men and women that raise eyebrows, these children’s shirts that read “Enjoy Cocaine” make little sense, if any. It’s possible that some parents find it humorous, but the reality is that there is nothing funny about drug use, drug abuse, or drug addiction. Drug use can easily escalate to more frequent drug abuse and even drug addiction, which can result in a life of pain and even fatal consequences. Why would anybody want to support the concept of glorifying drug use when drug addiction is a disease?
Drug Addiction Is A Disease That Shouldn’t Be Glorified
Just like there shouldn’t be clothing and accessories that are in favor of having cancer or diabetes, there shouldn’t be any merchandise promoting and glorifying drug use either. Drug addiction is as much a disease as cancer and diabetes. Just how cancer and diabetes needs to be treated, a drug addiction needs to be treated as well. With clothing that pokes fun at a serious disease like addiction, it only hurts those who have been impacted and makes drug use enticing to the public when using drugs is more of a threat than anything else.
It’s sad that there is merchandise for sale online that glorifies drug use and that it’s directed toward children. During this time where the country is experiencing one of the worst drug epidemics, it’s sickening to think that drug addiction isn’t being treated like the disease that it is and that companies are profiting off an illness. Drug addiction should not be taken lightly because people die from drugs – every day. It is certainly not an issue that should be promoted, especially on children’s clothing.
