#MondayMotivation: Stinking Thinking | Weekly Meditation
“Don’t believe everything you think.” – Anonymous
Don’t believe everything you think, because everything you think is not always reality. Sometimes negative thinking or “stinking thinking” can take over and make us feel like our thoughts are facts and make it difficult to separate the real from the false. Our perception as alcoholics and addicts is skewed so when we get into obsessing over negative thoughts it can quickly become our reality until we make a change to our thinking.
Changing our thoughts can also be difficult when we are using the very same brain that is helping create those thoughts. In order to change our thinking pattern, we find it beneficial to share it with another alcoholics/addict, get into the action of helping others, and engaging in prayer/meditation to help calm the mind, body, and spirit.
This will take practice and can be affected by any number of things like where you are at in your life, what challenges you are facing, or even something as simple as not eating or sleeping enough. Remember that you are not alone and that the illness of addiction wants to make you feel separated and different, but that is not true either. All of us at various points of our recovery have felt this way and it is only by growing through it that we are able to recover from it. You will be OK and you are OK, even if your brain tells you something different.
Share. Action. Recover
Just for today, I will not let my stinking thinking take me to dark places, I will instead share it with others and take action so that my thoughts can be changed.
