#MondayMotivation: Don’t Compare | Weekly Meditation
“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” – Steve Furtick
It can sometimes be easy to compare my insides with someone else’s outsides. The thing about comparing is that I separate myself from my fellows – my community. I have to remember that everyone fights their own battles and everyone is on a different chapter of their story. When I compare, I lose focus on all the beauty that I have in my life and in me.
When I am in the comparing mindset my perception is off. I may perceive to view other people has having a better body, better things, better job, better house, better car, etc…After I have compared the heck out of them and me, I may follow up with something like this: “Well, yeah, but are they happy?”
Usually, when I get to that question, I have to remind myself that I shouldn’t be Okay with other people’s good fortune because I think they are unhappy. How about my good fortunes? Am I not entitled to good fortunes and happiness just as they are? Jealousy or bitterness is usually the culprit of that and it’s totally human to do, I just don’t want to stay there. I want to be the kind of person that is happy for others and their blessings as I would be happy for my own.
When I can stop comparing my chapter 5 to someone else’s chapter 15, I am happy. Everyone has their own trials and tribulations and we never know what someone has, is, or will be going through, so why not be happy for one another when times and things are good? We can build one another up today; there are more than enough blessings to be spread around.
Just for today, I will not compare my insides with my fellow’s outsides and I will be happy for everyone’s blessings.
