#DetoxMonday: Pain Is Inevitable; Suffering Is Optional
“Pain Is Inevitable; Suffering Is Optional.” – Anonymous
Pain, Go Away
Pain comes in all forms, like emotional and physical, and it’s different for each person. Many people believe that feeling any form it is considered a weakness, but I think it’s actually the opposite.
Anytime I have shared my pain with others, I found that I not only deal with the pain better, but I recover from it easier than I would if I were trying to do it all on my own. Expressing your pain and fears is a sign of strength and if you think any differently, you may want to find out why you are allowing your ego and pride to stop you from growing and healing.
I am really good at handling and other times you might catch me on my knees crying. But it doesn’t mean that I’m doing anything wrong. For me, it means that I am accepting whatever feeling I am feeling at that present moment. It’s when I am feeling my most vulnerable that I am able to find a greater solution. Ever hear people share about how they were given the gift of desperation towards the end of their drinking and drugging career?
There have been a few times
In my recovery that I was given the gift of desperation in order to push me in a new direction of growth and happiness. Sometimes it is strong and sometimes it’s just uncomfortable, and the level of pain is really based on how badly I need to be pushed. This is where suffering is optional comes into play. I have two options when I am in pain. I can either sit in my pain make no changes to fix it. Or I can put my all into recovering from the pain. What will my choice be?
Usually I do a little of both
I may sit in for a while until that doesn’t work anymore and then I may take some steps to alleviating the pain. I do this until I have found the right combo that works and I have healed. Sometimes this can be accomplished in a day, while other times it can take much longer, but as long as I am being proactive, there is hope of recovering.
In conclusion remember that you are not alone and that this too will pass, you just have to be about the action and leave the results up to your Higher Power.
Just for today, I will share my feelings with others. I will take suggestions and try my best to help me recover from my pain.
