Just Keep Swimming!
How often do you feel like life isn’t fair? The good news is that you are not alone. Everyone goes through life’s ups and downs. Everyone! However, how we choose to move through those rough patches is up to us. We can certainly sit and feel sorry for ourselves, give up, and blame the world, or…we can get up, dust ourselves off, and just keep swimming.
I can count many times where I saw no end to whatever problem I was facing. I recall being scared, confused, angry, and unsure of which action I should take. Then when I knew what action I had to take, I felt scared and unsure about taking that action. I just had to do it. Push through it and essentially just keep swimming until I made it out to the other side.
What have I learned from each of those experiences? It gets better and I can get through it. Even if it feels like I can’t. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, even if I don’t see it, yet. I have faith it’s going to work out exactly the way it’s supposed to because that has been my experience.
The other great part about swimming through the difficult times in our lives is that in recovery we have support and those to swim with us. We are not alone if we choose to reach to those who are offering a helping hand. We don’t have to travel alone, but it is up to us to let others know what is going on in our lives and ask for help.
Your happiness is in the palm of your hands. If you are going through it, reach out and ask for help. If you are not going through it, reach out and give help. You will be amazed how much love, joy, and happiness will enter your life provided you are willing to take a few simple steps to get there.
So, for today, just keep swimming.
