Go with the Flow
Many times when we come into recovery, and even for those of us who have been around a little while, we want to know what is coming next. Going with the flow can seem daunting at times. If we just knew what was coming next we would be able to make better decisions and we would be where want to be, but is that always so true?
I know from my experience that every good and bad decision I made has actually helped me grow into the happy woman I am today. In return, it helped me help others because of that experience. Nobody robbed me of my various emotional bottoms in recovery and for that I am grateful. It has also given me a new found sense of strength that one can only obtain from going through a struggle and coming out the other side.
Going with the flow is a process
Almost 6 years later and it can sometimes be difficult to go with the flow when I am trying to run the show. The great news is that I have a program of recovery and Higher Power that can help guide me back on track. It is human to test boundaries and to error. It is human to sometimes feel the desire to take control and run with it. It’s human to feel frustrated or stuck. We need to remember that it’s OK to be human and that as long as we are trying to be better people each day, we will be alright. We will also be able to get back into the flow of things much easier when we recognize how human we really are.
When I go with the flow of things I am much more at ease with life and life’s situations. There is a sense of true freedom when we learn to just let go and the let the process unfold exactly as it may. Sometimes this is easy and in a few cases this may be the hardest thing you have ever done. In all cases we have those around us to help support us along the way. The great news about having a support system is that we don’t have to do these things alone.
Just for today, let go and go with the flow.
