Motivational Meditation Monday: Keep Calm & Build Relationships

No matter how much time we have in recovery, relationships can be difficult when we aren’t working on building them. Relationships with a Higher Power, self, others, and the planet are all equally important. Do you know why? Because how you treat yourself, others, and the planet is usually a direct reflection of what your relationship with your Higher Power looks like. If you don’t have one, how do you expect to have one with yourself or anyone/anything else?
As I have grown in recovery I have learned that life is all about relationships. It’s not about how much money I have (or don’t have), the clothes I wear, the cars I drive, or any other materialistic thing; it’s about my relationship with myself, others, and the planet.
I am not perfect and am most definitely human, but I do try to stop at the end of each day and reflect on my action and attitude towards myself, others, and the planet. How was I part of this world? Was I giving more than taking? Was I being kind, loving, tolerant, and patient towards others? Was I being those things to myself? I know that we may have a tendency of coming into recovery pretty selfish, but sometimes we go to such extremes to be self-less we forget to have some self-care. It is OK to think of yourself once and awhile and have your needs met. I am of no use to others if I am beating myself up, not taking care of myself emotionally, and neglecting my physical needs like getting proper nutrition, sleep, and exercise.
Balance is key when it comes to building relationships, so make sure you allow that balance into your life. I found that when I have balance, I am much more at peace and much more happy with myself and others. The great news is that each day is a new opportunity to build relationships and be a better person.
Be kind to yourself, to others, and to the planet. Today is a new day to build relationships and live happy.
