Motivational Meditation Monday: Keep Calm & Be Of Service
“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” – Albert Einstein
Life can be gross sometimes. I use to think things were happening to me, but now I see that things happen because that’s just part of life. Sometimes it rains and sometimes it shines. Everyone goes through it. I am not alone and neither are you. The best remedy I have found to work when things happen in life is to be of service and help others.
Be Of Service
Helping others is an excellent way to get out of yourself. Sometimes when I am angry, hurt, or in pain, it’s easy to fall into self-pity. I can go into a whirlwind of thoughts like I am not good enough, smart enough, funny enough, or even as far as worth it enough to be happy in this life. When you put pen to paper, sounds pretty silly, doesn’t it? Not worth it enough to be happy? That’s ridiculous. It’s so ridiculous that one might think I am the only one who would ever dare think such thoughts, but I am not. There are plenty of people who go through life feeling less than. And they are not all alcoholics and addicts. That’s another thing that I think is very important. Not just addicts and alcoholics have to deal with life; the only difference is that we could drink/drug over it. I think it is important because when we separate ourselves from society we can find just one more thing that makes us less than. Remember, you are not alone, even if others around you do not suffer from alcoholism or drug addiction. Everyone has their own demons they must face on this planet.
Now, let’s get back to helping others and being of service. How does one help others? It’s pretty simple and not always what you think it is. Here are some methods that have worked for me.
- Helping someone in recovery
- Calling a loved one to see how they are doing
- Sharing my experience
This is not rocket science and pretty simple to do. If you are looking for a way out of misery and self-sabotage, just be of service and let the rest happen naturally. Helping others is like a buzz that just keeps getting better the more you do. It’s the only buzz that I have found works like that. I may not want to do it at the time, especially if I am really in my head (which can also be physically exhausting), but once I do do it I feel amazing!
So, if you are in your head right now, go out and be of service. You have nothing to lose except a bad attitude.
