Motivational Meditation Monday: Keep Calm and Stop Overthinking
If you’re stressing over happiness, you’re doing it wrong!” ― Shannon L. Alder
Most people overthink things, which can actually turn into negative self-talk and/or discourage one from taking action to better their lives. Don’t get me wrong, it is important to think about the actions you are going to take in many of life’s situations, but if you overthink too often, you will never be happy and never get anything done. The good news is that simple daily meditations and dependence on a power greater than yourself can help keep you from overthinking.
I am pretty sure there are a few others who have either felt this way or are feeling this way now. That reflection moment when you stop, look around, and just feel blah about your life. Then there are other times where you couldn’t be happier or more filled with joy. Most people experience these feelings at various times in their life. What causes these feelings, anyway? Well, overthinking for one, and expectation vs. your acceptance of your life for another.
Life is not always puppies, rainbows, and sunshine; it can suck sometimes. It can be scary, overwhelming, and lonely, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. When we make a conscious effort to be happy, stop overthinking, let go of expectations, and accept that our Higher Power is in charge and that we are exactly where we are supposed to be, we will have found peace. It is only when we focus on the negative that our unhappiness takes over and we are discontent with life and all that it offers. Why do we feel the need to punish ourselves with this kind of thinking? When in doubt, just remember that you are of no service to yourself or others when you overthink and beat yourself up.
Today is the day to stop overthinking, stop being negative, stop complaining, stop feeling sorry for yourself and take action for a better today and tomorrow. You are worth happiness and you can have it right now. The more you engage in positive thinking, the better you will feel, bottom line. When you find yourself overthinking, stop and change your thoughts or even actions into something positive. Let today be the day you change your perception so that you can change your life.
