Motivational Meditation Monday: Keep Calm and Be Honest
“If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” ― Mark Twain
Keep Calm and Be Honest
The truth is if you can’t be honest in all your affairs (even the small ones) you will fall short when telling the truth in situations which demand your rigorous honesty. Those little fibs, can lead up to nasty consequences and how true that is for the addict or alcoholic. Even omitting information is lying. As addicts and alcoholics we lied because of two factors 1. We were scared of getting caught for something and 2. We were scared of losing something. Both reasons were run out of fear and our selfishness. We didn’t care who we hurt and even if we did care, we didn’t think our actions were affecting anyone anyway. We lived by the idea that what they don’t know won’t hurt them.
What we weren’t aware of is that our “lies” (even tiny ones) would pave the way of how people treated us and how they felt about our character. Many of us would come into recovery and not understand why people just didn’t trust us again. The best part is that we get angry for them not trusting us, as if we have given them any reason to do so. Some of us continue lying into sobriety; whether we lie about cheating, stealing, or any other number of things. We think that nobody knows and maybe they don’t, but most people suspect something is up. In return, people still do not trust us and we continue to be hurt by others not taking into consideration that we are the ones hurting others, we raise suspicion and other raw feelings when we lie or omit.
Most of us know the difference between right and wrong, and if you don’t, you might want to talk to your sober support about those differences. What would happen if you just didn’t lie or omit the truth? Think of the freedom that would occur? When we tell the truth, we don’t have to remember which lie was said where. We have the freedom to talk opening about situations with our friends because they know what is going on in our life, and we don’t have to fear getting caught because we have always been honest. People trust us and we would have integrity. Now I am not saying you should go around and be brutally honest where it will hurt others, but just not being selfish anymore. If you are lying because you are scared of losing something, then you are technically trying to run the show and trying controlling people, places, and things again. I want to invite you to take a chance today and be honest. Honesty shows confidence, good character, and leadership skills. So keep calm and be honest in all your affairs, just for today and every day.
Just for today, I will keep calm and be honest.Tags: honestly, keep calm, motivation, motivational monday meditation, Watershed Ashling
