David Cassidy Arrested On Third DUI

David-cassidy-arrested-duiThe Partridge Family cast alum David Cassidy is in hot water after a DUI arrest in Los Angeles this January.

TMZ reports that Cassidy was arrested on January 10, after he was pulled over by local police for making an illegal right turn near Los Angeles International Airport. After smelling alcohol in the car, the officer conducted a field sobriety test in which the former teen heartthrob blew a .19 – more than twice the legal limit of .08. He was arrested that night and released a few hours later on $15,000 bail.

A stressful time for David Cassidy

Jo-Ann Geffen, Cassidy’s manager and publicist, told Entertainment Tonight that the singer-actor was in Los Angeles for court depositions regarding a 2011 lawsuit. In the suit, Cassidy alleges that he is owed overdue money from Sony Pictures from sales of The Partridge Family merchandise.

"David just completed a stint in rehab and was doing very well in sobriety," said Geffen in a statement in January. “It appears as if the pressure led to a brief relapse. He was on his way to the airport to return to his home in Florida and to transitional rehabilitation. He plans now to return to rehab in an undisclosed facility."

Third time is no charm

Unfortunately for Cassidy, this was not his first such incident. In fact, it wasn’t even his second. The Los Angeles episode was indeed his third DUI arrest, following a 2013 charge in New York, and a 2011 conviction in Florida.

Getting help

Addiction is often characterized by an inability to control certain behavior, despite negative consequences the behavior might create. With his third arrest in just over four years for the same behavior, David Cassidy’s actions point to classic symptoms of alcoholism.

Relapse can happen, but it’s not the end of the road, and it’s not indicative of failure. There are many factors that contribute to addiction and staying sober requires attention to all of them. Overcoming addiction requires complete abstinence; even just a small indulgence in drugs or alcohol can send an addict reeling back to dependence.
