Meet new people: You can meet new friends by going to a meeting and asking for numbers, hang out with friends from work, join a new club or group, or even go sit at a coffee shop and meet new friends. There are people all around you, especially in your chosen twelve-step program.
Go online: There are also online meetings and dating sites (be careful with this one) that could help you meet new people; although this way isn’t as great as going in person to make friends.
Keep busy: Pick up a new hobby, do some journaling, try some photography, read a book, arts & crafts, do some painting, learn how to play a new instrument, go see a movie or rent a movie.
Be patient: Learning how to deal with loneliness isn’t fun, obviously. Keep your head up and be open minded to suggestions.
Acceptance: Learn to enjoy your alone time and to be okay with sitting by yourself. Sometimes it’s easy to confuse boredom with serenity. Learning how to deal with loneliness will not only help you grow stronger, but it may help you by working on yourself and making yourself happy.
You’re not really alone: Even though you feel lonely, even when around other people, try to realize that you are never really alone.
