Be Different Meditation
In a world where you can be anything…be yourself! Recovery isn’t just about not using or drinking; it’s about living life happy, free, and embracing your inner self. For such a long time most of us tried to “fit” in, mold ourselves into the people we thought others would like. Under all that false pride and ego, we were scared and alone. As our disease progressed, so did our unruly behaviors. We couldn’t mask who were anymore. We lied, cheated, stole, manipulated, and misplaced our emotions. We didn’t do this because we wanted to; it was almost like we were under a spell from our addiction. As we entered recovery, we finally got a look at who were really were, and most of us didn’t like it.
The longer we stayed clean and sober and worked a program of recovery the more we could clean up and live freely, this was our beginning towards a new life and a new love of self. Instead of trying to hide who we were or pretend to be someone else, we accepted who we were and who we were to become. We were grateful for our differences and saw that we not only had something to offer others, but that we had a real purpose in this life.
Our differences are what make this life exciting. Because of our differences, each of us is able to bring something special and beautiful to the table. If we were all the same, there would be no growth, there would be no real bonds that could continue to tie us together, and life as we know it would become dull and imperfectly perfect. Instead of trying to fit in, trying to get others to “like” you, how about just be you? Be different, be unique, allow the real you to show. When we walk around with our ego and pride running the show, we can get hurt by others. When we walk with humility and we know our Higher Power is in charge, nobody can touch us. If you want to be truly free, try something different, try being exactly you.
