South Florida Reel Recovery Film Festival Starts Tonight
The 2nd annual South Florida Reel Recovery Film Festival is set to begin tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Delray Beach Marriott. The festival will feature recovery based movies, presentations, and discussions throughout the weekend. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals in recovery to come together and share their thoughts on films about addiction. The purpose of the festival is to save lives by promoting addiction treatment as part of solution to alcoholism, drug addiction, and self-destructive behaviors. The event is open to the public and free, although donations are encouraged.
Highlights of the Reel Recovery Festival
The Reel Recovery Film Festival opens tonight with Bob and the Monster, a documentary film about indie-rocker Bob Forrest and his transition from struggling drug addict to one of the nation’s most influential drug counselors. The film will be followed by an engaging discussion on drug addiction. Over the course of the weekend, 18 movies and short films will be shown including better-known films like Flight (2012) and Owning Mahowny (2003), as well as indie films and documentaries. The Reel Recovery Film Festival will conclude Sunday evening following the showing of film Paul Williams Still Alive at 3:55 p.m.. You can view the full schedule of events here.
An Important Event for Recovery
The Reel Recovery Film Festival is more than just an event to watch all these great films about addiction and recovery;it is an opportunity to discuss the importance of addiction treatment through alcohol and drug rehab. This event is a great chance for anyone struggling with addiction to speak to many people who are already in recovery. Those who are in recovery from drugs or alcohol understand the struggles an addict or alcoholic may go through, therefore they are able to help guide them in the right direction.
The festival also represents an opportunity for families with a loved one in recovery to see how difficult addiction to drugs and alcohol can be. These films show realistic visual representations of addictions. Their message can really drive home the idea that addiction is a disease, and not a moral dilemma, and that the best course of treatment is through a professional program. As much as it helps to read about the struggles of addiction, these films really help bring it to light.
If you have some time over the weekend, The Reel Recovery Film Festival is a great event to attend for anyone in recovery or looking for help.
