Keep Calm & Keep Going Meditation
Many of us in life will go through trials and tribulations, which is why the idea of long-term recovery can be a frightening one to some. How is one supposed to stay clean and sober during difficult times? Most of us picked up over far less stressful situations. It seems near impossible to go through something serious and stay clean and sober. Although it may seem silly, the simple concept of just to keep calm & keep going has a tendency to work.
Those in the rooms usually state that if you clean house, connect to a Higher Power, and help others you will be able to endure those low spots that happen to us in life. This is also why it’s important to go to meetings, get sober support, and work a program of recovery. Life is going to happen with or without our consent, when we are not strong; we learn to ask for help. The important thing is that we keep calm & keep going, and that we do not give up before we have given time its chance to pass. Life is ever changing and if we allow our negative thinking to predict the future, we may miss something beautiful. Some of the worst things people have gone through later have turned out to be a blessing in disguise. How many have heard people share their “horror stories” only to come out saying how grateful they are for their life today? If those men and women did not go through that trial they may not be who they are today – they may not have the life they have today either.
We need not worry about the past or the future. We need not even worry about the present. We just need to focus on our connection to our Higher Power and our fellowship. Sometimes what we are going through is serious; sometimes it’s simply in our head. Either way, it’s important to keep calm & keep going through life clean and sober no matter what. Some meditation questions from the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous (p.85-88) that can help you keep calm & keep going each day are as follows:
Was I resentful, selfish, dishonest or afraid?
Do I owe an apology?
Have I kept something to myself that should be discussed with another person (alcoholic/addict) at once? Was I kind and loving toward all?
What could I have done better?
Was I thinking of myself most of the time? Or was I thinking of what I could do for others, of what I could pack into the stream of life?
It is crucial to not drift into worry, guilt, remorse or morbid reflection, for that would diminish your usefulness to yourself and to others. There is no benefit to beating yourself up; it’s merely a means to help clean up any damaged goods that may be residing within your thinking. It’s a way to be free of negative energy so that you may be able to live life happy and free.
