Addiction News On Rx Pills
Rx Overdose Deaths Higher For Women:The percentage of overdose deaths from prescription pills among women in the United States is at an all-time high, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is declaring it a public health epidemic. The rate of prescription pill overdoses among females has increased up to 400% from 1999 to 2013. Men have increased a little over half of that. An estimated 12% of female deaths were suicides, while the majority of deaths are accidental overdoses from mixing prescription meds. A more recent study has found that 7 out 10 Americans take at least one prescription drug. Is there a connection to these overdoses and why women don’t seek addiction treatment programs?
Addiction News On Heroin
Godfather Of Heroin Dead At 80:Lo Hsing Han, nicknamed the “Godfather of Heroin” by the US government, died at age 80 this past weekend. Lo Hsing Han was considered to be one of the biggest heroin traffickers in the world dating all the way back to 60’s. After building his drug empire he used his profits to build his corporate empire, “Asia World,” which was actually believed to just be a cover for his drug trafficking in the 90’s. Asia World to this day remains a powerful corporation, and is now operated by his son, Stephen Law.
In other addiction news Nikki Sixx conitnues to stay clean and sober. Motley Crue bassist, Nikki Sixx, celebrated his sober anniversary on 07/02/2013. Nikki Sixx struggled with substance abuse for years and was even clinically declared dead for two minutes in 1987 from a heroin overdose.
Addiction News On Cocaine & Marijuana
Cocaine & Marijuana Use At Apple:Apple’s executive management team has reportedly uncovered a widespread use of cocaine and marijuana among employees at their European headquarters in Cork, Ireland. Apple took the drug abuse rumors given by their employees very seriously and started a search on the premises immediately. Evidence of cocaine and marijuana was present at least 14 stations. Apple’s Cork headquarters was founded 30 years ago and employs over 3,000 people. This is not the first time a brush with substance abuse for apple employees has come into question, anyone remember in 2010 and 2011 where apple employees left iphone prototypes at a bar, twice? Just goes to show you that substance abuse can affect anyone, even the most intelligent and well established people.
Addiction News On Nicotine
Snapping Turtle Addicted To Nicotine:A snapping turtle in Changchun, China is reportedly said to smoke 10 cigarettes a day. The turtle’s owner, local restaurant chef Tang, says the turtle got hooked on nicotine when he was trying to remove a chicken bone that was stuck. Tang placed a lit cigarette into the turtle’s mouth to prevent him from snapping at him. 10 cigarettes a day to a real smoker doesn’t seem like all that much, but when you look at the size difference between a snapping turtle and a human being, it would be like a man smoking 200 cigarettes a day. Apparently when the turtle doesn’t get his smokes he displays signs of withdrawals. Maybe it’s time for this turtle to try quitting smoking, provided he doesn’t snap first.
