“Today, I’m free.” – Anonymous
The moment we enter recovery, surrender to a new way life, and work a program, is the moment that we are free.
So many of us spent what felt like a life time searching for an easier way out of addiction when really the easiest way out was through the work of a program of recovery. The only hard part was pushing through our old ideas and beliefs. We started to see that it wasn’t the addiction holding us hostage anymore, it was really ourselves. We may have lost the power of choice to drink or use drugs, but we did not lose the connection to a higher power who could give us that strength. It was up to us if we were going to recover. We couldn’t blame the disease of addiction, others, or even places anymore. Because the truth was if we were to be free we had to do the work and we had to do it fully.
No matter what, our happiness is ultimately up to us, and if we want it, we must do the work. This is true for those of us who are newly sober and who have been around for awhile. If we want to be free, we have to continue growing and working on our recovery.
Just for today, I’m free and I will embrace that freedom by appreciation, gratitude, and action.Tags: detox monday, keep calm, monday motivation, motivational monday meditation
