With so many options on the web and little information about which centers are legitimate or not, how do you know what program is the best choice for you or someone you love who is suffering from addiction and needs help now?
Finding A Drug Rehab Program
Florida is an amazing state to get sober in – it’s warm, beautiful, and full of exciting events as well as career and educational opportunities for recovering individuals.
However, lately it has received some negative attention in the news because of the recent raids on some bad sober homes. The truth is that there are bad people in every state trying to take advantage of the system and of those suffering in crisis.
As one of the leading addiction treatment programs in the nation The Watershed has helped over 55,000 addicts and alcoholics recover from the disease of addiction since we opened our doors in 1998. Our goal is to make sure no addict or alcoholic has to suffer at the hands of these bad drug rehab programs.
We want to make sure you are safe and armed with the facts about how to find a good drug rehab program here in Florida. Here are the steps you can take to ensure you find the best drug rehab program for you.
Sober Task Force
There are a lot of great treatment centers out there trying to help addicts, alcoholics, and their families recover from this devastating disease, but there are also some bad people taking advantage of good people in crisis. You may have heard of these bad sober homes or bad treatment centers in the news recently. But since the Sober Homes Task Force was put together, we are seeing more and more of them shut down.
In the meantime, we want to make sure you and your loved ones are safe and able to locate a good drug treatment program that is a legitimate practice which puts your well-being first. Make sure you check out the Sober Homes Task Force page to see what arrests and information have been reported for any treatment programs before you check into a center.
Accreditation & Affiliations
Check to make sure the treatment facility has accreditation in the state they service. This information should be located on their website. If you cannot find it there, you may want to continue your research elsewhere.
Also, check to see if they have any other affiliations/accreditations with organizations like. The Joint Commission, American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), National Association of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), or other affiliations on a local/state level.
It’s best to find an inpatient treatment center that has a medical detox at the facility And staffed 24 hours a day with medical personnel. This leaves less room for error if there is an emergency and medical attention is needed promptly.
Also, check to see which hospitals are in the area and their distance from the detox facility. Detoxing from drugs or alcohol can be very dangerous. You want to make sure the facility provides this service in a comfortable and safe environment.
Inpatient & Residential Treatment Program
The programs may vary depending on the treatment facility. The drug rehab should include a staff of addiction professionals like psychiatrists, medical doctors, psychologists, nurses, and therapists.
The best Inpatient rehabilitation programs will include private therapy, group therapy, and 12-step programs. Individualized programs should be offered as well for dual diagnosis, women, men, etc.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP):Is a treatment program where patients will attend counseling and therapy groups during the day, while attending recovery 12 step meetings in the evening. A treatment center that has halfway housing for patients who are attending a PHP program is best.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP):Is the next level of care after completion of a PHP program. Usually patients will have their day hours free to go to school, work, or volunteer. During the evening they will attend night treatment which includes counseling and therapy groups.
The facility should have housing that they own for this phase of treatment so that patients can stay connected with a recovery support group, be able to attend 12 step meetings, and Alumni events.
Half Way Housing & Sober Living Communities
The best treatment centers will offer additional services at their halfway houses like on-site career development programs, GED and Education enrollment assistance, vocational preparation courses such as basic computer training, budgeting and financing, and healthy lifestyles. If the halfway house or sober living community does not offer these services you are not getting your money’s worth.
Life-Long Alumni Support
An addiction treatment center that offers Alumni connection services cares about their patients. Whether a patient has a week or 10 years out of treatment, you will want a facility that continues to give life-long support as you or your loved one continues on their path of recovery.
