Abstinence from alcohol and drugs isn’t just a recovering person’s thing. Here’s a list of sober celebrities – some in recovery and some not – that set the trend for 2015.
Sobriety is hot going into 2016. Are you on board?
On September 10th, 2015, Sia shared on her Twitter account (@Sia) that she was celebrating 5 years sober.
“5 years sober today. If you’re newly sober, keep at it, it gets so so awesome. YOU CAN DO IT.”
The model/celebrity doesn’t seem to care for alcohol, saying, “I’ve never had any drugs and I had a little taste of alcohol when I was 12 years old, but that’s about it.”
The singing sensation has no problems talking about her addiction and proudly shares on her Twitter (@ddlovato) and IG about her recovery. Demi celebrated 3 years clean and sober on March 15, 2015. Lovoto is an active advocate for the recovery community and has even supported Facing Addiction.
Lopez is not in recovery, but feels that alcohol is bad for your skin. She will, on occasion, hold a glass for a celebratory toast and may take a tiny sip, but not enough to get drunk.
Macklemore spoke in great detail about the devastation of addiction in his new hit song, Kevin, which he performed this past year at the AMA’s.
Most famous for his roles as the villain in his movies, Trejo couldn’t be further from that character in real life.
“I love playing the bad guy in movies, because the bad guy always dies. That’s the real world. If someone asked me to play a bad guy that always gets away with it, I’d pass. That’s the very message I preach to youths who are in crisis and in trouble…the bad guy always loses and the good guy always wins. It’s the one-thing movies and real life see eye-to-eye on.”
Trejo celebrated 47 years clean and sober this year.
This Gossip Girl star has admitted that drinking just isn’t her thing. “I don’t drink,” she said. “I’ve never tried a drug. It’s just something that I genuinely don’t have a desire for.”
Kat Von D
The famous tattoo and makeup artist recently celebrated 8 years sober and has also been dating the former “Jackass” star, Steve-O, who is also in recovery.
Along with his girlfriend, Kat Von D, Steve-O prides himself on his healthy lifestyle as a sober vegan.
Kim refrains from drinking alcohol. She has explained that she doesn’t like the taste and also feels that it’s completely irresponsible to drink in excess.
Sober Celebrities: A New Trend
What these awesome celebs prove is that whether you are in recovery or not, drinking and drugging is not as exciting as it’s sometimes made out to be. It used to be that doing drugs and drinking alcohol was popular, but as more people come forward about their partying – or non-partying – lifestyles, it would appear that the new trend is not drinking (especially not to excess), not doing drugs, but instead maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
If someone you adore is struggling to put down the bottle, help them by setting a new example of not enabling their drinking and drugging by not doing it yourself.
