Living In Gratitude
Getting in the funk of being unhappy with life’s trials and tribulations can be pretty easy to do. But you know what happens with too much and too long of negative thinking? It turns into our actions towards ourselves and others, and it has the power to cause some serious harm if not checked and corrected.
We all can think of things we are not happy about, but when it’s consuming your entire life, something has to give. Usually it’s as simple as an attitude adjustment, but sometimes something else needs to happen. Maybe action in your life needs to happen. Whatever the solution is for you – sitting in your negative thinking and self-pity is not the answer. For me, I choose to try to look at the positive things in life (even if I am struggling); because I know at the end of the day I have an amazing life beyond my wildest dreams. You know how I know this? It’s because today I don’t have to struggle to fight my alcoholism. I am a free woman and have the opportunity each day to help create an even more amazing life for myself because of that fact.
Life is going to happen and sometimes it just might suck. I know that the grass can sometimes look greener on the other side, but that should not affect you or how you live your life now. We get out of life what we put in just like we get out of my recovery what we put in. Happiness can be created when we put enough energy into it.
So, even though things in your life may not be unicorns, rainbows, and puppy dogs, remember that you have the power (and your Higher Power) to change your thinking and your actions any time you want. You just have to put some work into it, walk through some fears, and go after your dreams. Maybe your dream today is to just be happy. So go after it!
Or, maybe you are happy and full of gratitude today (which is awesome), so get out there and share that with others! Someone may need a little extra hope and happiness in their life, too. We are all in this journey together, so spread the love!
Just for today, be grateful for the things you do have and share that with others.
