Keep Calm & How
The thought of not drinking or drugging for the rest of your life can be a daunting statement, but it doesn’t have to be that scary. We do this deal one day at a time. Recovery is pretty simple when you break it down into pieces. The best part besides being simple is that it is totally obtainable by anyone who is being honest, open-minded, and willing.
Most of us, when we came into the rooms of recovery, had all these ideas and beliefs that were controlling our every action and thoughts. Many of our beliefs were hurting us, but there was one belief that was trying to kill us – that we could drink and/or drug one day successfully.
Here is where it can get confusing for some. Many people don’t even know if they are struggling with a reservation to drink/drug or if they are just struggling through the cravings and mental obsession. When I got honest, kept an open mind, and became willing to do whatever it took to recover, that is when I saw that I had no reservation, but rather struggled with the mental obsession and cravings. The great news is that after some work and commitment to working my program of recovery, I would be relieved from the desire to drink/drug. This is not a theory of mine, this is just my experience.
Whether you are new in recovery or have been around awhile you can still apply HOW to anything that might be blocking you off from obtaining your dreams. How many of us suffer from other addictions besides just drugs or alcohol? It doesn’t matter if you are addicted to gambling, sex, relationships, shopping, sugar, food, or even negative thinking, you can recover from it. You can recover if you are willing to be honest with yourself and others, have an open-mind on taking suggestions, and willing to put in the work to change. The choice is ultimately up to you, but don’t let your own false beliefs stop you from being happy, joyous, and free.
