High There! Online Dating App for Weed Smokers Takes Off

Sharethis Watershed

high-there-appA new online dating app called High There was created to help marijuana smokers find relationships with other weed smokers.

High There!

“High There” is the name of the new online dating app for weed smokers who want to engage with people that share their common interest of getting high.  This Denver-based app was created by Todd Mitchem and it has made dating easier for individuals to meet one another by “weeding” out the non-smoking candidates.

Mitchem claims the idea for the app came from his personal experience.  “We wanted to build a cool piece of technology that solved the problem of where do million and millions of cannabis consumers go to meet people, connect with people and build relationships,” he said.  “A lot of people say we’re the Tinder of weed, but that’s only one facet of the whole thing. It’s so much bigger.”  Mitchem explained how he was on a date when the woman he was with left him shortly after he informed her of his marijuana use.  It was after this he saw potential for an online dating app specifically for weed smokers, so he invested in his idea for “High There.”

How the High There app works

Similar to most social networking platforms, “High There” is set up for users to create a standard profile.  It is suggested to include information about their marijuana use, like how much weed they smoke, their reaction when they are high on marijuana, and any general information regarding the drug.  Weed smokers who use “High There” can check out other users’ profiles by searching and browsing profile images.  If a user finds a person they think that they might be interested in, then the user has the ability to contact them through a direct chat message.

Brings medical marijuana smokers together

Mitchem believes this online dating service will bring together medical marijuana users dealing with illnesses as well.  These users can connect on a deep level with the potential to be able to communicate recommendations and tips about how they can combat any difficulties associated with symptoms of their illnesses.  Mashable reported, “The app is only available in the 23 states that currently have medical marijuana laws on the books – it uses geofencing to lock out people in other states – which Mitchem said is out of respect for law enforcement.”  However, Mitchem is hopeful when it comes changing this by branching out into more territory.

Consequences of online dating apps for weed smokers

Though marijuana may be a legal drug in some states like Colorado, and decriminalized in others, it doesn’t change the fact that a drug is a drug.  A person with a substance use disorder like addiction cannot afford to be confused about a matter like this.  Online dating apps for weed smokers has real potential to quickly get out of hand for a person dealing with addiction.  Instead of focusing on online dating apps for weed smokers, why not create more recovery apps?  Check out these exciting recovery apps on meditations, readings, 12-steps, meeting locators, and more that are already up and running for your entertainment pleasure and convenience by clicking here.
