“It works if you work it.” – Recovery Slogan
Keep Coming Back
If you have been in the rooms long enough then you probably have heard the saying “keep coming back” as least a hand full of times. Some people follow it up with “never leave,” because they want to help prevent or warn against relapse. Keep Coming Back is just a simple way of saying that you are not only welcomed in the rooms, but that you will continue to learn and grow in your sobriety if you keep coming back. This saying can apply to someone who has one day, a chronic relapser, or someone with some time.
How often we fall short of our ideals when we continue on our journey in recovery. There are also times where we may forget that it’s OK to be human, that we will have feelings (both good and bad), and that we will not be perfect in our program, or our life. This is why we keep coming back. The meetings are for helping the newcomer, but they are also for those of us who have gathered a few days one day at a time to stay in the solution and draw strength of not only our higher power, but those in the rooms.
Some people need a meeting everyday while others only a few days out of the week; it depends on where the person is at emotionally and spiritually. There is no right or wrong when it comes to the suggested program of recovery, that is why it is suggested, but there are those who have experiences that may benefit each one of us on our journey. When I go to meetings, pray to my higher power, help others, and take suggestions that apply to my life through the experience of others; I am happy, joyous, and free. Recovery is about the journey, and so is life. As long as we stay connected and keep coming back, our ride will be that much more enjoyable.
Keep coming back and let’s do this deal one day at a time together.
