“Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I’ve done it thousands of times.” ― Mark Twain
Give It Up Meditation
Sometimes in life things just get real and overwhelming. There are times that you may feel the walls are coming in on you and there is no way out of your current situation. Other times you may have even feared for your sanity. When life shows up (and it will) sometimes all you can do is just give it up.
Give up the struggle, power, fear, anger, sadness, and whatever other life’s realities that are complicating your spiritual nature – it’s not worth the pain. The pain of suffering and struggling over situations does not change those situations, so it’s best to just stop trying to control it and let it go. But what does it mean to “give it up” anyway? Giving it up doesn’t mean you give entirely, it simply means you are giving up whatever feelings/fears are blocking you from being happy or even dealing with life on life’s terms. Giving it up doesn’t mean you don’t care, it just means that your serenity and peace of mind are more important. It means that you recognize you are of no service to anything or anyone if you are whipping around like a tornado.
Getting clean and sober doesn’t mean life won’t happen, it just means you will be able to be of service and be present where you once weren’t. When all else fails, give all that fear, anger, sadness, anxiety, and chaos up to a power greater than yourself (universe, God, Buddha, 12-step groups, whatever works for you) and just do your very best to be of service. If you put your program of recovery first and you keep your focus on trusting your higher power, cleaning house, and helping others, you’ll be alright. Remember that your higher power is in charge and all you have to do is take action just for today.
