Last night marked the 6th annual Halloween party at The Watershed Apartments (TWA). This Halloween party is always amazing, but last night definitely stood out. There were screams, laughter, and costumes that were out of this world. There was even a spooky haunted house at the party. The Watershed Alumni truly showed residents how to party sober on Halloween this year, and showed that recovery can be a lot of fun.
The Watershed Apartments
The Watershed hired a DJ and kept the music going all night long; they had designated chefs dishing out the burgers and hotdogs, salads, potato salad, coleslaw, and a even giant cake. The Watershed Alumni staff ran a face painting station, which was also used for “Fear Factor”; which included scary challenges and an obstacle course. The Alumni Staff also held a cake walk and a dance contest!
The night was amazing, but the biggest attraction of course was the Haunted House, which left people walking out terrified and excited! The party had an all around good energy and vibe, and the Watershed patients had a blast. It’s amazing that people in recovery can have a good time on Halloween, and remain clean and sober the whole time.
This led to some important questions for a couple patients who couldn’t get the smiles off their faces. Here are what a two of our patients had to say about their experience at The Watershed Apartments Halloween Party.
The Watershed: Is this your first clean and sober Halloween?
Tiffanie B., The Watershed Apartments Resident: Yes
Jared L., The Watershed Residence Resident: Yes it is.
The Watershed: What’s your favorite part about the Halloween party?
Tiffanie B., The Watershed Apartments Resident: The food, candy and music is awesome!
Jared L., The Watershed Residence Resident: Being around everybody sober and the music is awesome.
The Watershed: What’s it like living at TWA & TWR?
Tiffanie B., The Watershed Apartments Resident: I’ve only been here for a couple days, but so far it’s good. There’s not much negativity.
Jared L., The Watershed Residence Resident: It’s very relaxed. The techs and staff care about it, all of the residents are well involved and people are taking this seriously. It’s a good environment.
The Watershed: How has the Watershed helped you stay clean and sober this Halloween?
Tiffanie B., The Watershed Apartments Resident: They threw this awesome sober party, and everyone’s together sober!
Jared L., The Watershed Residence Resident: They helped me figure out who I really am, they put structure in my life and most importantly, they helped me with being honest.
The Watershed: How do you plan on getting through the holidays while staying clean and sober?
Tiffanie B., The Watershed Apartments Resident: I have a sponsor, so I’ll be calling my sponsor, going to meetings and working some steps. I need to stop procrastinating.
Jared L., The Watershed Residence Resident: I plan on getting together with my sober support group and staying in touch with my sponsor. I have really great support at home with my parents and family. I’ll be going to a lot of meetings.
We are so grateful we got to be a part of the Watershed Halloween Bash and can’t wait to see what they do next year. Last night was epic and truly a memory that will last forever. How great is it that hundreds of people can all be together at the same time, and everyone is clean and sober, having a great time? Being able to dance and have a good time without having to put a drink or a drug in your system is what recovery is all about.
