Kill Zombies Meditation
OK, we don’t actually mean to kill zombies, but as ex-problem drinkers or drug abusers we sure do know another way to kill zombies – don’t feed them! The longer we stay in active addiction to drugs and alcohol, the more we live and feel like zombies. We are numb and mindless, we live to use and drink. Much like the zombie obsesses over brains, we obsess over drugs and alcohol. We may even find others like us and join a herd of addicts and alcoholics chasing after our next high or buzz. We found ourselves nearly dead.
Once we remove the drugs or alcohol, our cravings after a little while cease to exist; now comes the hard part – staying off drugs and alcohol. This part is actually pretty simple, provided you follow a few certain suggestions. However, we like to make it complicated for ourselves. The way we kill zombies is to not feed into addictive behavior, negative thinking, and our own will. If we work a program of recovery on a daily basis, we are less likely to follow the herd and fall back into the trap of addiction. We are free.
How does one really kill zombies? Stop feeling sorry for yourself, being resentful, and angry at the world. Take some accountability and action for yourself. Millions, yes millions, of Americans suffer from drug addiction and alcoholism; you are not unique. Millions more have also recovered from drug addiction and alcoholism. Why not join the herd that are in recovery instead of addiction? In the war of addiction, there is no time to give up. Recovery is not for the weak and neither is addiction. We fought to get drunk and high – now it’s time to fight for your recovery.
Living the life of a zombie in addiction is no life at all. If you have the opportunity to get into recovery, take it. There may not be another chance. If you are already in recovery and struggling, kill zombies by working your program of recovery and spreading the message that recovery is a reality. Once we get out of ourselves and help others, we start to feel alive again and we are filled with purpose. Let no addict or alcoholic walk this road alone, stick together and help one another. Together we recover – together we heal.
