It’s every mother and father’s nightmare: to find out that their kid is addicted to drugs, or even doing drugs, for that matter. Many parents spend years and years trying to teach their kids that drugs are bad for them and to “just say no.” If the person suffers from the disease of addiction, just saying no may not be an option. One celebrity/parent is now going through something he probably hoped he would never have to face. After already dealing with his own drug addiction problems, Robert Downey Jr’s son is now going to a substance abuse treatment center for prescription pain pills. Indio Falconer Downey is a 20 year old who is suffering from a prescription pill addiction, but is now getting the help he needs.
Indio Falconer Downey: Life Story
Born September 7, 1993, Indio Falconer Downey is suffering from a drug abuse problem and has sought help from a substance abuse treatment center, with the help of his loving parents: Robert Downey Jr. and Deborah Falconer. His mother says that he has only been taking one pill a day, but they want to avoid bigger troubles for the future. Indio Falconer Downey’s mother said the treatment he is receiving is “holistic, natural and orthomolecular” and that no medications are being taken. His treatment includes vitamin supplements and organic foods. Indio Falconer Downey is a talented musician and has been playing at the Viper Room in Los Angeles with his band ‘The Seems’; it’s also been reported that he has a deal with Warner Brothers Records. If Indio Falconer Downey’s father (Robert Downey Jr.) could recover from his disease of addiction, then Indio should have no problem kicking this disease in the butt and get back to his band.
Indio Falconer Downey: Addiction Runs In the Family
Robert Downey Jr. is a well known, successful actor, but as a child, Robert Downey Jr. was “surrounded by drugs.” His father (Robert Downey Sr.), who was also a drug addict, allowed Downey to use marijuana at age six, an event which his father has said that he now regrets. Robert Downey Jr. stated that drug use became an emotional bond between him and his father. “When my dad and I would do drugs together, it was like him trying to express his love for me in the only way he knew how.” In time, Robert Downey Jr. began spending every night abusing alcohol and searching for drugs. By getting sober, he was able to completely turn his career around and is now one the highest paid actors in Hollywood. The Iron Man has had multiple drug arrests and altercations due to his drinking and drug use, but has reportedly been sober since 2003. Now he gets to be there for his son, Indio Falconer Downey, for his recovery.
Much Like Indio Falconer Downey and Robert Downey Jr., there are other celebrities in recovery who’s son or daughter also suffered from the disease of addiction. There is Ozzy Osbourne, who had put about 6 years of sobriety time together before his recent relapse, and his daughter Kelly Osbourne who has around 6 months sober. She had been taking Vicodin since she was 13, and got to the point where she was taking about 50 pills a day! They both now get to help and support each other with their recoveries.
Another celebrity addict family duo is Martin Sheen, and his son Charlie Sheen. Martin Sheen is an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and got clean and sober to help his son, Charlie Sheen, with his addictions. Sheen was the highest paid actor on television in 2010, and earned $1.8 million per episode of ‘Two and a Half Men.’ Charlie Sheen’s personal life has hit the headlines, reporting alcohol and drug abuse, marital problems, and allegations of domestic violence. He ended up getting fired from ‘Two and a Half Men’ by CBS and Warner Brothers, in March of 2011. There are no reports of him being sober just yet.
