Zac Efron’s cocaine addiction and rehab stint may help others recover. The former teen idol best known for his role in the hit show “High School Musical” is reported to have completed his drug rehab program about 5 months ago and is still clean and sober. Efron, 25, was seen recently at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of Parkland, where he plays the role of Jim Carrico. The movie Parkland recounts the events that occurred at the Dallas Parkland Hospital on the day JFK was assassinated, and will be in theatres October 4th, 2013.
Celebrities, like Efron, who admit they have a problem and continue to stay clean and sober, really help break the stigma associated with drug addiction and alcoholism. These brave stars help show that it not only can happen to anyone, but that recovery is a reality, too.
Zac Efron Cocaine Addiction
Efron has not publicly spoken about why he was in rehab or what drugs he was using, but sources have shared to multiple media outlets that Efron was in rehab for cocaine addiction, alcohol, and even dabbled in the club drug, “Molly”. When Efron was asked how he is doing now, he replied, “I’m good, real good,” according to E! Online.
Young Celebrity Addicts & Alcoholics
Zac Efron cocaine abuse comes to most as a shock because the High School Musical cast has mostly avoided any connection to drinking and drugging related issues, unlike other television shows that are now linked with the struggles of Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus, or Amanda Bynes. Although Zac Efron cocaine addiction has not been confirmed or denied, other sources stated that it became a problem that affected him while shooting his new movie, Neighbors, releasing in May of 2014.
Zac Efron Cocaine Addiction & Celebrities In Recovery
It’s not uncommon for some celebrities to duck under the radar and get help for their addiction, while they continue to live productive lives in recovery and in the spotlight. Daniel Radcliffe, aka Harry Potter, admitted he was struggling with alcohol since he was 18; he got sober shortly after turning 21. Other celebrities were train wrecks who garnered constant media attention, but when they got sober, suddenly you didn’t hear much about their addiction or their successes in sobriety. Robert Downey Jr. is one such celebrity. While some celebrities make it their mission to advocate for addicts and alcoholics everywhere, Kristen Johnston is a prime example of sharing her voice in recovery. Each of these stars, and others like them, make a difference in helping to break the stigma that prevents many addicts and alcoholics from getting help.
Zac Efron Cocaine Abuse Spotlights Recovery Too
Addiction has long been labled a shame-based disease; it’s the only disease that friends and loved ones seem to hate the person for having. Alcoholism and drug addiction for a long time was something one simply just did not talk about, for fear of not being accepted by others in society. The more voices that speak out and say they are in recovery, the more hope they bring to those still trying to get clean and sober. Alcoholism and addiction is not a moral issue or a lack of willpower – it’s a disease for which treatment is available.
