It’s our party and we can do what we want, except sing the song lyric “Dancing with Molly” at this year’s MTV 2013 Video Music Awards (VMA) hosted in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Miley Cyrus VMA performance was more than most expected.
Miley Cyrus VMA 2013
At last night’s VMA’s, check out the Miley Cyrus VMA video at your own risk where twerking may or may not be the same as tweaking, and Miley gave her most scandalous performance yet. At first, she is in what appears to be a bear bathing suit-like ensemble (the bear is definitely doing the Miley crunch face, tounge out and one eye shut, which oddly resembles the faces most people make when they are about to puke) and later ends up in a shiny beige bikini where she played around with a foam finger. Twenty year old Cyrus also shocked viewers with her twerking expertise on 36 year singer Robin Thicke during the song performance of “Blurred Lines.”
Miley Cyrus VMA: The New Duck Face
We can also all rest assured that “duck face” will now promptly be replaced with “crunch face” thanks to the Miley Cyrus VMA performance. Congrats Miley for setting a positive drug-free example for our youth. (Yes, that statement is heavily laden with sarcasm.) However Miley, we do sincerely hope Molly doesn’t actually take you to a place many people go before they discover they have a real problem with drugs.
Miley Cyrus VMA: It’s Molly, Not Miley
Miley Cyrus told the Daily Mail in a recent interview, “I don’t think people have a hard time understanding that I’ve grown up. You can Google me and you know what I’m up to — you know what that lyric is saying.” So finally she admits she is singing about the drug Molly (code name for MDMA), but does that make it alright? OK, so you grew up Miley, (yay) but what does doing drugs, twerking, and acting like you don’t care about yourself or others have anything to do with being an adult? It just seems a little like the temper-tantrum that a five year old would throw when their parents tell them they can’t have ice-cream before dinner. Part of growing up is not doing what you “want” to do, but doing what is “needed.” To be honest Miley, what is needed for this generation is a good example of a strong woman who not only has talent, but can perform without the use and abuse of drugs or alcohol. A strong woman who respects her body and those around her. A female role model to help teen girls know that they don’t need to act like this to get attention from boys and that they don’t need drugs to be OK or have fun.
